Let me first say, I had no, and I mean literally no idea that last Friday would be a day that would be marked in my memory forever. It all started at my favorite coffee shop, Artifact coffee, and ended way better than any Friday I can remember.
I don’t share too many personal things on this blog so I figured I should start with a little bit of history between Matt and I. We’ve known each other for almost 8 years – friends for four, dating for three and a half. While I thought an engagement would happen soon (it may have been something I was #cravingcurrently…see what I did there) I didn’t think 2016 soon. My thoughts were thinking maybe Spring (March/April are our birthday months) therefore I was in complete shock when I saw him get down on one knee.
A little background to the day:
I’ve consistently gotten asked, Didn’t you see it coming? And honestly, I thought I would. I always know when there’s something up with Matt; whether he’s upset about something or doesn’t feel good. So naturally I thought I’d know. But nope – we went to breakfast, ran some errands at Target and even got giant sandwiches from our favorite Baltimore Italian market DiPasquales. My best friend Ashley asked me the day before if I wanted to get pedicures on Friday afternoon since we were both off and of course I said yes. One thing to note – we never get our nails done together because we have the same nail girl (shoutout to Sarita at Athena Nails & Spa). But a Pedicure was different – she had been to another Nail tech at Athena who did a great job and we hadn’t seen each other since before Christmas so needed some #twintime (another story for another time). We decided after our pedicures we’d meet up with the guys (Ashley’s husband and Matt) at a bar for happy hour. Perfect I thought.
Our pedicures finished right around 4:30 PM and we sat drying our toes – I was chatting away not even thinking about meeting up with the guys. Looking back now – Ashley abruptly said, OK I think we’re done – let’s go. Sounds good I thought – grabbed my shoes and my jacket and we started walking out the door.
I asked if Ashley had talked to Will and she said they were at Barcocina – so we naturally started walking toward Fells Point. Now it’s important to note that I usually walk down a specific street toward downtown Fells Point and Ashley takes the water route – she started going toward the water route so I made a comment about it – still thinking nothing was about to happen though.
No more than 30 seconds of us walking along the water do I spot Matt, Will, and Zara (the furbaby). I immediately notice Zara has on a white t-shirt and make a comment to Ashley – who says nothing (only noticing that in hindsight). They get closer and I look down at Zara’s shirt reading “Will” – thinking in my head it says something funny and Ashley and Will had made a t-shirt for her as a joke. I continued reading as Matt is getting down on one knee and I froze. I was in utter SHOCK. No words, no tears, just SHOCK.
I finally read the shirt in full and grabbed Matt, hugging him so hard – I remember him saying, “Is that a yes?” and saying, likely screaming, “YES” about a million times.
I couldn’t have asked for a better surprise that day or end to 2016. Everything was perfect and we got to celebrate that night with our friends and had a great dinner with our families New Years Day.
Hats off to my Fiancé (GAHHH) for picking out the perfect ring, HAND making a custom ring box, making sure I didn’t have the slightest clue and making the last Friday of 2016 the best day ever. Also a very special thank you to my best friends Ashley & Will for snapping all of these a m a z i n g photos!
Can’t wait to share my journey into becoming a MRS with you all!
